This first post is a test for the launch of Urban Corridor. I will be updating on a (hopefully) regular basis with news, photos, and commentary on urban issues in the corridor region of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. My profession is architecture and I have always had a strong interest in urban development, thanks to hours spent laying out SimCities as a kid. Having been fortunate to spend some time in Europe and experience dense and pedestrian-friendly cities of the continent, it really opened my eyes to how spread out and haphazard our cities are here back in the States.
The intent of this blog is to dissect issues of sustainability, smart planning, and development news that occurs throughout the what is known locally as the 'Corridor,' the metropolitan area including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty. I will also post about other subjects occasionally, such as events or new technologies within the design world, and maybe even automotive discussion here or there. The heart of this blog will always be Corridor issues, but I will delve into other tangents of interest from time to time.
